so essentially, this fic will take place after they reunite in the future so they’ll be around 17 or 18 years old. and i don’t wanna spoil it, but killua gets pretty injured on a mission, basically strangled within an inch of his life. his throat is absolutely fucked up! like bruised everywhereee. its gnarly. he is unable to speak afterward. and we all know how gon gets when killua is threatened -> livid. but, since they’ve been apart for so long, gon had never felt so angry in a long time and he’s kind of oblivious to his feelings for killua, so seeing his best friend wrecked like that… *wink wink*

i really wanna explore how gon’s demeanor and actions change because of what happened. like, gon respects killua’s boundaries for the most part especially now that he’s matured away from killua, but seeing killua in this really weak and upset state brings out this protective + angry side of him. not to mention that while they were together as kids, gon had never seen killua get injured to the point where his basic functions were impaired. so he doesn’t see killua as this invincible guy who’s basically immune to everything anymore.

so then that shift in gon results in little subtle changes in their dynamic. gon becomes a lot more physical to ground himself and to reassure himself that, yes, killua is here and okay. not only that, but he’s verbal with it, too. gon has always been someone who shows his love through actions, but killua is someone who can only understand love through verbal confirmation. 

there’s one specific scene i want to write where killua and gon are kind of out and about, walking through town and just taking it easy while killua heals (romance ensues of course), and the guy who had hired them to take on the bounty in the first place finds them. gon immediately steps in front of killua, kind of backing the guy away while shielding him all at the same time, and his once peaceful demeanor shifts to a hostile one instantly. overall, gon is very much protective.

that change in gon confuses killua to say the least. killua is physically unable to speak so he can’t communicate his thoughts or feelings to gon. he’s frustrated with himself and gets annoyed with how incompetent his abilities are. he’s upset that he can’t thank gon for taking care of him or being patient with him (not that it would have been easy doing so anyway). gon is constantly reassuring him though. anyway, it just kind of festers inside killua until the guilt almost kills him and he starts reaching out physically to gon first to show what he wants to say.

i really just wanted a fic where killua gets hurt and gon snaps into the realization he’s in love with him. this is also in killua’s pov bc im literally incapable of omniscient pov writing lol

we all know gon fell in love first but mf too dumb to realize it LOL
